The Aboriginal Flag Bearer for 2024 is Gumbayngirri woman Loretta Donovan! 🖤💛❤️
Since we are playing on beautiful Gumbayngirri country we knew the person holding the Aboriginal flag had to be a player representing that mob, and someone who is a perfect example of pride, connection to culture and a leader in community, and who better then women’s 47s player Loretta! 🪃Loretta was our girls 21s 2022 ITF coach and helped bring the girls home with a silver and is hoping to bring a gold home with her women's 47s side!! Loretta is looking forward to meeting all new teammates and mob and wearing the AIO colors with pride! 👣
We had the honor of speaking to Loretta’s mum Aunty Janice about her daughter and she said “We are so proud of Loretta and her achievements she has come a long way with her sports. Her talent runs deep in her veins. When it comes to footy Loretta is always front and centre . Loretta talks and breath football every day! If she is not playing it she is always on the sideline yelling or coaching. Footy is the love of her life! 🏉
The dedication to her culture she bleeds black, red and yellow. Our culture means everything to us. We are proud of all our Indigenous and Torres Strait Islanders. We will always stand by our culture and support them anyway we can!”
Deadly as Aunty Loretta. We can't wait to stand behind you.
