The 2024 Torres Strait Islander Flag Bearer is Erub Island and Peiudu Samsep man Thaiday Reuben! 💚💙🤍
We are so lucky to have so many Torres Strait Islander players come and play for the mob!
Every tournament they share their culture, songs and dance with us especially at AIO opening and closing dinners! One man who is always front and centre, showing his culture to the world is Thaiday! 👣Thaiday was apart of our 2022 ITF senior mixed team, our 2022 men’s 30s QLD BOTN side and now our 2024 men’s 40s side!! 🏉Thaiday is excited to play at the highest level of oztag, and represent his family and mob on the international stage! His also looking forward to playing along side the Balas and showcase what they have to offer on the field!
We had the honor to speak to Thaidays mum Aunty Beryl, who phoned us from all the way up in the Torres Strait during a power outage to speak to us about her son! She said “As Thaiday’s mum I am so proud of him and his sporting achievements. On this international platform Thaiday is representing his Peiudu and Samsep clans of Erub community (Darnley Island) and the whole of Zenadth Kes (Torres Strait).
Good luck and God bless my boy, you make me and all your family proud. Have a great game.”
Deadly as Uncle we can't wait to stand behind you.
